The Tainan Canal Museum, located in the Anping District, was formerly known as the Tainan Canal Anping Customs Office. It was officially designated a Tainan City historic site on May 13, 2003. In 2004, it became part of the Anping Harbor National Historical Scenic Area Project, and was renovated in February 2005 to become the Canal Museum.
The exhibition halls primarily showcase old photographs of the canal era, traditional fishing boats used by early settlers, fishing gear models, and a scale model of the old Anping Customs Office. There is also a screening room that shows historical documentaries about the canal.
Outside the museum, the garden is filled with greenery and fragrant flowers, making it a perfect spot to relax and unwind. As a result, many visitors can be seen here throughout the day enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
The museum building, originally constructed during the Japanese colonial era, is a wooden structure that once served as a checkpoint for commercial ships entering Anping Harbor. Importers were required to dock and pay customs duties here. Over time, the building fell into disrepair, but thanks to the local government's restoration efforts, it now stands once again in its former glory, with a hazy classical beauty that enhances the historical charm of the Canal Museum.
