About Tainan Annei Film Studio
Tainan Film Studio is located in the heart of the downtown Yanshui District of Tainan City.
Spans an area of approximately 33 hectares
with the current development zone covering approximately 10 hectares.
The studio is situated on the site of the former Yanshui Sugar Factory, a century-old sugar refinery plant, popular attractions such as Qiaonan Old Street and Yuejin Harbor are also close by. After the sugar factory ceased operation in 1992, the site remained idle for over 30 years. In 2018, the Ministry of Culture and the Tainan City Government collaborated to establish Annei Sugar Factory as the first film and television base started as a joint venture between central and local governments. The main focus is to provide era-specific settings, open spaces for set construction, film production subsidies, and filming assistance. Currently, the studio features two Taiwanese historical ear settings: a Qing-era Traditional Market street and Main Street. Additionally, open spaces are available for production teams to construct sets according to their specific filming needs, all with the aim to cater to the practical requirements of the film and television industry.
Qing-era Traditional Market Street
The first era-specific setting is the “Qing-era Traditional Market Street,” which realistically recreates the appearance of the streets and Minnan-style architecture of Tainan during the Ming and Qing dynasties. This scene was constructed for the Public Television Service’s epic drama series “Sequalu: Formosa 1867,” with the set centered around a late 19th-century Taiwanese street based on historical records such as the “Taiwan Prefecture Gazetteer” and old photographs depicting the street layout. The set includes street blocks, city walls, city gates, Minnan-style architecture, and a bustling market scene.
Approximately 8,100 square meters.

Main Street
Welcome to Main Street, where we’ve brought back the vibrant intersection of Taipei’s historic Sakaemachi Street and Honmachi Street (today’s Chongqing South Road and Hengyang Road). This spot was once the architectural highlight of old Taipei, featuring four iconic buildings that capture the essence of the era.
Not just a feast for history buffs, Main Street has also become a go-to filming location, covering everything from late Japanese colonial to the early post-war era. It is currently the only fully recreated historical streetscape in Taiwan. Expansion plans are already under construction, so stay tuned—there’s more on the way!
Approximately 50,000 square meters.

Backlots
The studio offers an open space designated for setting construction, specifically for production teams to build their own sets as needed.
