The Yanshui River, formerly known as Xinguang River, flows through the administrative areas of Longqi, Guanmiao, Gueiren, Xinshi, Yongkang, and the North District of Tainan City. Its estuary includes the Taijiang National Park, making it ecologically significant and classified as a centrally managed river. Since 1997, Tainan County and City have jointly promoted a 15-kilometer-long bicycle path along the left bank of the Yanshui River, with a riding time of about 1 hour.
Before officially entering the Yanshui River bike path, there is a steep slope, which is the first challenge for cyclists. Many people choose to dismount and walk their bikes to reduce the burden of climbing the steep incline. Along the way from the levee to the riverbed, there is a vast grass field with lush greenery that sparkles brightly both in the morning and at dusk. Once on the Yanshui River bike path, the elevated view offers a broad perspective, with a clear view of the Yanshui River and the Sicao Bridge. The cool breeze along the route makes for a comfortable ride. Due to the abundant ecological resources, several bird-watching observation platforms have been set up along the way, providing entertainment for visitors during their rest stops.
The straight and flat wooden boardwalk along the Yanshui River bike path is paved with a thin layer of asphalt, making the ride smoother for cycling enthusiasts. In the future, the bike path will be connected with other cycling paths in Tainan City, allowing the public to enjoy cycling and hiking while fully appreciating the cultural and ecological beauty of Tainan.
