The Anping Small Fort is located on the west side of the ruins of Taiwan's city wall. It was built during the Qing Dynasty as one of the defensive measures against the British army, including the main fort structure and the stone embankment to the north. Right next to the water park is the main fort, constructed with granite and cobblestones. The fort's surface is paved with oil-faced bricks, and underground, there is an ammunition storage area. Unlike the modern Western-style forts like the Eternal Golden Castle, the design of the Anping Small Fort is different. It is the most well-preserved and significant late-stage example of the traditional Chinese-style forts. Before the completion of the Eternal Golden Castle, it served as the most important defensive fortress along the southwestern coast of Anping, playing a crucial role in protecting the old capital city of Tainan. The old city of Tainan is a place where historical monuments are well-preserved, which is one of the city's unique characteristics. At any given street corner, you might find traces of history. While the Anping Small Fort may seem unremarkable and easy to miss if you're speeding by, it was built to protect the safety of the Anping Old Fort. Its historical significance is indeed extraordinary!
