Introduction

The Wu Family Garden, also known as the Former Tainan Public Hall, is a historic site dating back to the Zheng dynasty period. Over a century ago, it was recognized as one of the Four Great Gardens of Taiwan, alongside the Lin Family Mansion and Garden in Banqiao, Beiguo Garden in Hsinchu, and Lai Garden in Wufeng . Due to its long history, the structure suffered damage over time. Salt merchant Wu Shangxin undertook renovations, modeling the garden's landscape after the Feilai Peak outside Zhangzhou City. He incorporated artificial hills, ponds, and pavilions, while preserving elements of traditional garden design. Wu Family Garden is considered one of Taiwan's earliest public gathering spaces.

Adjacent to the garden is the Willow House, a renowned restaurant during the Japanese colonial period. Today, it serves as a tourist information center and a venue showcasing Tainan's top ten specialty products. Visitors can appreciate the historical architecture while enjoying local delicacies. The renovated Wu Family Garden exudes a classical charm, offering a stark contrast to the surrounding modern buildings, creating a sense of traversing through time. The garden features a small cave for exploration, expansive lawns ideal for children to play, and a serene pond at the rear. With its harmonious blend of mountains, water, and greenery, the garden provides a refreshing and tranquil environment, making it an excellent spot for relaxation and sightseeing .
