Qigu Salt Mountain was once the largest salt field in Taiwan, primarily supplying salt for domestic agricultural and industrial use. As times changed and sun-dried salt production became economically unviable, the Qigu Salt Fields ceased operations in May 2002, bringing an end to Taiwan's 338-year history of traditional salt production. This marked the beginning of a new era for Qigu Salt Mountain as a recreational and tourism destination. Covering an area of one hectare, the dazzling white salt mound stands approximately six stories tall.
