Nankunshen Daitian Temple enshrines five Wangye (Royal Lords), resulting in four pilgrimage periods throughout the year to celebrate their birthdays. Among them, the most grand and festive is the celebration on the 26th and 27th days of the 4th lunar month, honoring the birthdays of the First Royal Lord and Fan Wangye. During this time, the temple becomes a vibrant hub of religious activity, with worshippers and pilgrimage groups from Wangye temples across Taiwan gathering to pay their respects. Large numbers of spirit mediums (jitong) also converge here, creating a spectacular spiritual assembly seen across the island. The temple's architectural features are also noteworthy. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the towering main gate — the largest five-gate wooden paifang (archway) in Asia, topped with glazed tiles that exude grandeur. Within the temple grounds lies the expansive “Dakun Garden,” a 6-hectare natural landscape garden designed in the style of classical Jiangnan gardens. It took over 20 years to complete and is reminiscent of the grand gardens of the Ming Dynasty. At the center stands the Main Hall of the Five Lords Cultural Museum, serving as the temple’s core structure.
