Introduction

Originally established as the Anping Customs Office of the Tainan Canal during the 15th year of the Taisho era (1926) under Japanese rule, it was designated a historic site in 2003 and transformed into the Canal Museum in 2005. The museum features a video introduction about the canal, numerous vintage photographs displayed on the walls, a blackboard documenting ship arrivals and departures, and various model fishing boats representing activities at the Anping Port. The interior walls of the museum are constructed using the traditional "woven bamboo and mud" technique—bamboo strips woven into a mesh, coated inside and out with mud mixed with straw and rice husks—an ancient method of wall construction.
