This Taiwan Fishwood is said to be the largest and oldest fishwood tree in Tainan City. It was previously facing the fate of being relocated, but fortunately, local efforts helped preserve it. Fishwood (Capparidaceae family, Crateva genus) is also known by other names such as Taiwan Fishwood, Three-legged Tortoise, Three-legged Table, Mountain Olive (in Taiwan), Taiwan Three-legged Tortoise, Treehead Vegetable (in the National Chinese Herbal Medicine Compilation), Horned Crooked, Square Lantern (in the National Chinese Herbal Medicine Compilation), Mengmengmeng, Tiger King, Dragonhead Flower, Goosefoot Tree, Treehead Vegetable, and Chicken Claw Vegetable (in the Chinese Medicine Dictionary). Its native areas include Guangdong, Yunnan, and Taiwan (with a subspecies unique to Taiwan).
