Madou Old Street began to develop in 1920, stretching from Xingzhong Road in the upper street to Zhongshan Road in the lower street, extending over 1 kilometer. It is the second longest old street in Taiwan. The old street features a mix of new and old buildings, forming a unique local character. The Electric Theater is a famous landmark on Madou Old Street, with 14 sleeping lion heads embedded on the left and right sides of its exterior walls. The architectural style of Madou Old Street combines Baroque architecture from the Taisho period in Japan with modern architecture from the Showa period. Many buildings still display animal-shaped decorations at the roof peaks, decorative patterns on the column capitals, beautiful curved lines, and elaborate sculpted shapes on the gable walls.
