Located in Ximei Village, Shanhua Township, it was established by the Japanese in February of the 38th year of the Showa era (民治38年). Originally named Taiwan Sugar Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Wanli Sugar Factory after the old name of the Shanhua Township, "Wanli Street," the factory's initial crushing capacity was only 180 tons per day. In 1946, it was renamed Taiwan Sugar Corporation Second Division Wanli Factory. However, since the name "Wanli" was confusing with the Wanli District in Tainan City, it was changed to Shanhua Sugar Factory in July 1961. To actively innovate and increase revenue, in June 1995, a compost production facility was completed to solve the issue of bagasse disposal, and to promote the recycling of pig manure from livestock farms to reduce sugar production costs. In October 1995, a miscellaneous crops stock company was established to plant small banyan trees, potted plants, ginseng figs, potted iron trees, and other exportable ornamental flowers on the factory grounds to increase revenue. Main operations: 1. **Farm Management**: The farms managed by the inland raw material section (including Donghouliao, Xinzhuang, Machou, Liuying, etc.) produce 75,000 tons of self-cultivated sugarcane. The Shanhua raw material section (including Zengwen, Kanxi, Jiali, Sangu, and the raw material areas of Shanhua, Shanxiang, He'an, Rende, Dahu) produces 56,000 tons of self-cultivated sugarcane, with a total sugarcane area of 73,000 tons. The Nanjing raw material section includes six farms (Nanjing, Luchao, Baigezhu, Shu'an, Xingan, Taibao, and Yizhu, Houqi raw material areas), with an annual production of 93,000 tons of self-cultivated sugarcane, and an additional 14,000 tons of cultivated sugarcane, covering a total area of 4,832 hectares, with a total raw material cane production of 311,000 tons. 2. **Sugar Production**: The sugar factory uses the lime method to produce two types of sugar, with a daily crushing capacity of 3,000 tons of raw material. The annual sugar production is approximately 28,500 tons. On weekends, a visit to the sugar factory is a great way to enjoy some ice cream to beat the heat. There are also machinery exhibits, which further help visitors understand the sugar production process. We believe you will gain a lot from the experience!
