Xinying Taizi Temple, located in Xinying District, Tainan, Taiwan, is both a temple and the namesake of its surrounding area. Established in 1688 during the Qing Dynasty, the temple was built by early settlers from Fujian Province who brought with them the statue and sacred artifacts of Marshal Zhongtan to honor and seek protection from this revered deity. The original structure was a modest earth and brick shrine, reflecting the humble beginnings of the community. In 1728, the temple underwent significant expansion to accommodate the growing number of worshippers. Today, both the old and new temple buildings stand side by side, preserving the historical architecture and cultural heritage of the area. The old temple, with its traditional construction and intricate decorations, offers a glimpse into the past, while the newer structure continues to serve as a vibrant center for religious activities and community gatherings.
