Meiling is located in Wanqiu Village, Nansi District, and was formerly known as "Banana Mountain." Later, bananas were replaced by plum trees. In the 1980s, former Vice President Hsieh Tung-min visited Meiling and, seeing the plum blossoms in full bloom, renamed Banana Mountain to "Meiling."
