Zhahamu Indigenous Park

Introduction

Over 400 years ago, Anping in Tainan was originally the territory of the Tsou people, and the Tsou language referred to the area as "Zhahamu." In 2002, the Tsou people returned to Tainan to reconnect with their roots, and to promote ethnic harmony, a themed cultural park covering an area of 5,223 square meters was established. This includes the "Zhahamu Indigenous Park" and the adjacent "Indigenous Cultural Hall." Due to its location near the Anping Harbor National Historic Scenic Area, it not only enhances local tourism value but also helps reshape the image of urban indigenous communities. The "Zhahamu Indigenous Park" features many Tsou-related elements, such as the "Song and Dance Festival Cultural Plaza," which is designed to complement the neighboring Anyi Park and offers a large grassy area for performers, with seating made of natural turf and wooden benches. Around the plaza are twelve stone sculptures representing Taiwan’s indigenous tribes, symbolizing the roots of indigenous peoples in this land. The "Slate Commanding Stage" also displays totems symbolizing the unity of indigenous peoples dancing together. The park also includes a viewing platform offering panoramic views of the park and Anping, along with Tsou-style pavilions, round wooden statues, and indigenous-themed wooden seating. If you wish to gain a deeper understanding of the Tsou people's life and culture, the "Zhahamu Indigenous Park" is an ideal leisure destination. The cultural hall inside the park showcases indigenous culture and sells related items. Every October, a grand "Tsou Cultural Day Festival" is held here, where many Tsou people dress in traditional attire and perform songs and dances. The event is also open to tourists, so if you have a chance to visit, don’t miss this lively celebration!
