The Former Tainan Shrine Office was built during the Japanese colonial period in 1930. It is located in what was once the outer garden of the Tainan Shrine and is now part of the Zhongyi Elementary School campus. Originally, it served as an auxiliary building for shrine staff and administrative use.
The structure features a Japanese-style garden landscape and faces north, with a "ㄇ"-shaped (U-shaped) layout. The building uses a pseudo-wooden construction design, consisting of three main parts: the building body and the roof. Its light blue roof paired with soft yellow beams and columns creates a particularly pleasant appearance. The surrounding eaves are built in proportion to the drainage system—a style passed down from Japanese-era schools in Taiwan.
After several renovations over the years, the building has retained much of its original charm. On a refreshing afternoon, you might consider taking a trip to Tainan Railway Station and stopping by to see this historical structure. It not only preserves the traces of history but also remains an intact example of Japanese-era architecture despite decades of reconstruction. While visiting historical sites in Anping District, don’t forget to explore this beautiful Japanese-style building as well.
