Introduction

The Tainan Railway Station, built in 1900, was known as "Tainan Eki" during the Japanese colonial period. It is a two-story building facing east, with a Baroque style after several renovations. The station is mainly divided into a large front hall, a waiting hall, and a platform at the rear. The second floor originally housed a restaurant and a railway hotel, but the hotel business gradually declined and ceased operations in 1986. Additionally, the underground passage connecting the station and the city often hosts street performances. Although the history of the railway station is not very long, it holds significant historical value and has been designated as a national historic site. The Tainan station has two entrances, front and rear. The front entrance faces a traffic roundabout, which is one of the busiest areas in Tainan. The bus station across the road is a gathering spot for students. Walking to the right, you'll find the main shopping area along North Gate Road, with stores selling electronics, fashionable clothing, and classic books. Continuing straight to the right leads to the city's green space—Zhongshan Park and Tainan Senior High School. The rear entrance is near the department store and Tainan Hospital. Because it is close to National Cheng Kung University, there are many affordable eateries popular among students. If you're visiting Tainan, it is worth considering a simple day trip around the Tainan Railway Station to experience authentic Tainan life.
