Data Published:2022-05-16

Untold Story is a short film produced by the 28th graduating class of the Department of Radio and Television at Shih Hsin University. The story explores the existence of people, events, and things after they fade from memory. The protagonist, Yen Yen, persistently asks, "Are they still there or not?" In this narrative, what he perceives are not just ghosts or departed individuals, but also "memories."

The film is set in Longtian, Guantian District, Tainan City. The plot references events such as " Kou-mu-shan Mountain," "Yisheng Temple," and the "Fanzitian Factory Explosion." The story integrates various fragments of daily life, including:

Catwalk Discovery: Found near the Lingding Fude Temple along the Tongxiao coastline, this catwalk offers a unique perspective of the sea.

Encounter with a 93-Year-Old Local in Guantian District, he met an elderly woman who shared vivid memories of the bustling Longtian Railway Station in her youth, detailing the bus station and the workers transporting sugar and salt. Her stories were rich in detail and captivating.

A photograph depicting the Fanzitian factory explosion during wartime prompted reflections on the potential presence of workers during the incident.

The film does not adopt a strictly critical stance on historical events or war. Instead, it utilizes Yan Yan's perspective to uncover forgotten or overlooked aspects of the past. These may manifest as apparitions or as neglected fragments of one's own identity. The story emphasizes the transient nature of memory and its impact on personal and collective histories.
