Introduction

"Sicao Fort" is located on the west side of Tainan City, in the outer sea of Anping Harbor. During the Opium War, in order to prevent the British army from invading Taiwan, defensive forts were built across Taiwan, including "Sicao Fort" and the "Anping Small Fort" across the water, working together to defend the city from external enemies and protect the safety of the Taiwan Strait's maritime traffic. The earliest fortifications were originally just temporary gun emplacements, but due to frequent foreign invasions, "Sicao Fort" was later rebuilt into a more permanent structure. After the Japanese occupation, the fort was left unrepaired, and strong typhoons caused the southern section of the wall to be washed away by seawater, leaving only the current fort walls. "Sicao Fort" is now adjacent to Zhenhai Elementary School due to changes in the terrain. It remains a city wall that is 118.6 meters long, 1.62 meters wide, and 1.25 meters thick. The inner layer of the wall is made of alternating white stones, while the exterior is built with neatly arranged granite stones. Every six to eight meters, there is a cannon hole with an inner and outer diameter of about 84 centimeters, totaling 13 cannon holes. On the wall, ancient banyan trees grow, with roots intertwined and creating a picturesque scene that tells the story of the years passed. It also reflects the sacrifices and hardships of past generations who defended the Tainan River. Currently, "Sicao Fort" is surrounded by several old trees, and the roots of these trees have intertwined with the fort's walls, creating a unique landscape. It is a great place for tourists to take photos. In front of the fort is the "Dazhong Temple", and behind it is the precious "Mangrove Forest Conservation Area". The fort is surrounded by vast salt fields and fish ponds. Additionally, Tainan's delicious eel noodles and coffin board are local delicacies, allowing domestic and international tourists to fully experience the authentic cultural atmosphere of Tainan.
