National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), abbreviated as Cheng Da, is a national university in the Republic of China. It is a research-oriented university that shares in the "Top University Advancement Plan," receiving 50 billion NTD in subsidies over five years. It has developed into the second-largest comprehensive university in Taiwan in terms of academic scale. Its predecessor was the Tainan Higher Technical School established by the Taiwan Governor-General's Office during the Japanese rule in 1931. The main campus currently consists of eight adjacent campuses, with additional campuses in Annan, Gueiren, and Douliu in Yunlin County, covering a total area of 180 hectares. NCKU is now an academic and research center in southern Taiwan, a medical center, a center for physical and optoelectronic systems technology, a nanotechnology research center, an aerospace center, a regional network center, and a center for Taiwan Language Proficiency Testing. National Cheng Kung University is a member of the Taiwan Comprehensive University System.
